Titans Bid Farewell to Coach Vrabel After Six Seasons
After six seasons at the helm, Mike Vrabel’s tenure as the Titans’ head coach comes to an end, leaving behind a legacy that includes a 54-45 record and three consecutive playoff appearances from 2019-21, with a notable trip to the AFC championship game in the 2019 season.
Despite earning the top seed in the conference in 2021 and being named the NFL’s Coach of the Year, the Titans faced a setback in the divisional round against the eventual AFC champions, the Cincinnati Bengals. Subsequently, the team struggled to regain its momentum, experiencing a 7-10 campaign in 2022 and a 6-11 mark in the current season, marking the franchise’s first losing campaign’s since 2015.
Controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk acknowledged the difficulty of the decision, stating, “Earlier today, I spoke with Mike Vrabel and told him about my decision to make a change at head coach. This decision was as difficult as any I’ve made as Controlling Owner.” Strunk expressed gratitude for Vrabel’s contributions both on and off the field, highlighting his passion and genuine commitment to the Nashville community. She extended best wishes to Mike, Jen, and the Vrabel family for their future endeavors.
The decision to part ways with Vrabel is attributed to the team’s desire to foster greater cohesion with general manager Ran Carthon, who joined last year to replace Jon Robinson. As the Titans embark on a new chapter, they aim to build a unified foundation for future success.

“As the NFL embraces innovation and undergoes constant evolution, I am convinced that teams poised for enduring success are those that foster a united and collaborative spirit across all football departments,” stated Strunk. “In the past year, we initiated a strategic shift in our football leadership approach and implemented various personnel changes to propel this vision forward. Upon further evaluation of our team’s dynamics, I have concluded that introducing a new coaching staff with a fresh approach and perspective will further enhance the team’s overall performance.”
